Hopkins Dominates Girls’ Tournament

Two public and two private high schools dominated action at the 2019 State Girls’ Basketball Tournament to win championships in their respective sections.

Top-seeded Hopkins, led by the brilliant Paige Bueckers, swamped powerhouseNumber Two seed Stillwater, 74-45, for the Section AAAA title. The Royals previously won the championship game in 2004, 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015.

DeLaSalle, a Minneapolis city powerhouse, blew past Becker, 56-40, for the AAA championship. The Islanders had last won titles in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Minnehaha Academy, in its 13th Girls’ State Tournament appearance, eliminated Caledonia, 72-63. Minneota, also a winner in 2013, won the Section A championship by besting Goodhue.
