The Pink Jungle
August 7, 2009

In 1968, the movie The Pink Jungle was released starring James Garner and directed by Delbert Mann. On August 7, 2009, the Minnesota Lynx WNBA team turned the Target Center into a pink jungle of their own by defeating the Connecticut Sun by the score of 95-88.

In honor of Breast Health Awareness Night, the Lynx forsake their usual uniforms to dawn shocking pink ones.

Renee Montgomery scored a career-high 24 points, Nicky Anosike added 19 points and 12 rebounds, and the Lynx beat the Connecticut Sun 95-88, ending a three-game losing streak. Charde Houston had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and shooting guard Candice Wiggins hit for 12 points.

Sensing a weakness in the Sun defense, the Lynx pounced like pink panthers in the second half, driving the lane for easy rebounds baskets and crashing the boards for rebounds. The result? The Lynx now have 11 wins and 10 losses. Last year, Minnesota was 10-10 at the 20-game mark but stumbled and went 6-8 the rest of the way to miss the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. The Lynx are now in third place in the Western Conference.

Many of those in attendance came to see former University of Minnesota All-American Lindsay Whalen, and she did not disappoint. Whalen scored 15 points for the Sun.

Montgomery sealed the deal for the Lynx with a three-point basket with 5:41 to play for a 81-78 Minnesota lead. She was nine of 13 from the field.
