Saints Improve Record to 32-8 with 4-2 Win over Fargo-Moorhead
July 3, 2015
Kramer Sneed survived a shaky first inning to up his record to 7-1 with a 4-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before a crowd of 9,393 at CHS field.
Zach Penprase, the second batter of the game, homered, and Sneed then walked Chad Mozingo, who stole second and scored on a two-out single by Joe Dunigan.
The Saints got a run back on a lead-off homer by Alonzo Harris in the bottom of the inning and tied the game with an unearned run in the second. Anthony Phillips reached base on a throwing error by RedHawks third-baseman Brent Peterson and scored on a two-out single by Vinny DiFazio.
DiFazio is one of five Saints regulars with an OPS of over .950, and this crew contributed to the scoring. With one out in the fifth DiFazio singled and went to second when Ian Gac walked. After Angelo Songco flied out, Mike Kvasnicka lined a single beyond the reach of Peterson to bring in DiFazio with the go-ahead run.
With two out in the seventh Gac homered to left, an insurance run that was important when Drew Muren led off the top of the eighth with a double. Muren got to third with two out, and manager George Tsamis brought in Mike Zouzalik to get the final out. Zouzalik also pitched the ninth and got his first save of the season.
Brandon Mann took the loss, dropping his record to 1-4, but Saints hitters had some trouble making contact off him. Mann had seven strikeouts through three innings, and 10 through six. Until the eighth, all of the outs by the Saints were by strikeouts or balls in the air.
The Saints have won eight of nine games this year against the RedHawks, who now have a record of 11-30.
